Lang geleden stelde Frans Hasselaar voor een oud personnage nieuw leven in te blazen en hij had Ellsworth, de mynah bird van Goofy op het oog. Ik vond dat wel een leuk onbeschaamd figuur en schreef er twee of drie scenario's mee.
Helaas, mijn Ellsworth was te onbeschaamd voor de redactie en er werd niets met mijn werk gedaan.
Totdat ik zo'n scenario herontdekte in de uitgebreide en redelijk complete Geradts-archieven en ik een Ellsworth kikkerverhaal omwerkte voor Donald en zijn buurman Bolderbast. En dat scenario vond wel genade in de talloze redactieogen.
De titel komt natuurlijk van het beroemde muziekstuk van Smetana "Ma Vlast". Of nee, het is andersom: Smetana gebruikte het liedje "Er Zaten Zeven Kikkertjes Al In Een Boerensloot" in zijn "Ma Vlast".
En al Googelend leer ik dat het in Vlaanderen het Cecilialied heet en dat het volkslied van Israel "Hatikva" er ook al sprekend op lijkt.
Een mens is nooit uitgeleerd...

A long time ago Frans Hasselaar proposed to resurrect an old character and he was thinking of Ellsworth, Goofy's mynah bird. He struck me as a funny and impudent fellow and I wrote two or three stories with him.
Alas, my Ellsworth was too impudent for the editors taste and my work was discarded.
Until I discovered one of those storiesin the vast and more or less complete Geradts archives. I rewrote an Ellsworth frog story for Donald and his neighbour Jones. And this time the story found grace in the editor's eyes.
The title comes from a well-known Dutch children's song "Er Zaten Zeven Kikkertjes Al In Een Boerensloot" (Seven Little Frogs Sat In A Farmer's Ditch") that was used by Smetana as the theme for his "Ma Vlast" symphony.
Googling my heart out, I learn that the Flemish call it the "Cecilia Song" and that is resembles strangely the national hymn of Israel.
One never knows enough...
